MUTA our recycling and sustainability ally

Oct 5, 2023 1 min read
MUTA is a technological ecosystem that offers tools to turn our business into a source of circular economy and decent work.
Through recycling, the use of waste, and the environmental education, Muta promotes sustainability in different areas for industries of Colombia. Its mission is to revolutionize the recyclng industry of recycling through technology, social commitment and environmental responsibility.

MUTA comes to the hotel, where we generate recyclable waste, collects all the material and takes it to its classification plant, converting it into raw material that supports the circular economy of recycling and sustainability.

The money received for each kilogram of the different recycling materials is used to offer benefits to our workers, making their recycling culture grow: ¡They benefit from the way the hotel's waste is managed!

Our allies with the environment and sustainability

On September 14, Sandra Avelino, a 59-year-old professional with experience in Systems Engineering, completed an order for the Opera Hotel, making 50 baskets with recovered newspaper.

The purchase of these baskets is part of the Hotel's focus on supporting the country's Afro and indigenous communities.
Sandra, who retired in 2016 after years of employment, to take care of her family, discovered her passion for basket weaving through a course offered by the mayor's office.

This venture not only improved her mental health, but also allowed her to work with her husband to run their home. In 2020, he received guidance and training in brand creation and business development through Juan Pablo Socarras' "Historia Hecha a Mano" project, which strengthened his presence on social media.

His venture, Safay Country, specializes in creating eco-friendly lamps and decorative objects to make his clients' homes warmer and more welcoming.

We accompany older adults

An important activity of our hotel is OPERA VOLUNTEER.

On this occasion we visited El Hogar San José Jr, which houses 17 low-income grandparents, grandparents abandoned in hospitals, informal vendors or simply without any type of income or close relatives. This home does not have any support from the government.

On Friday, August 25, we visited this place. The collaborators of the Hotel de la Ópera joined this cause by collecting a complete groceries shopping and together with the Hotel being able to bring joy to these grandparents.

Hosts of "la Candelaria"

Oct 5, 2023 1 min read

The Opera Hotel, committed with the cultural environment, as a way of creating peace initiatives, continually trains its staff to become hosts of the City and from the Historic Center of La Candelaria; hand in hand with its allies Cotelco and the IDT among others.

We recently visited the renovated Cinemateca Distrital and the obligatory stop in the area, the Palacio de Nariño, in order to increase our experience to share with guests.

We also consider that tourism is the best way to increase income as a country. Our effort is aimed at making every tourist always want to return and recommend our country as a sustainable destination with peace and equity.

At the Hotel de la Ópera we support the initiatives of the current mayor's office, which sanctioned the agreement District Care System and converts it into a city public policy, giving it a permanence character regardless of the administration that is in charge.

We support our women to be protected and empowered.

Our work to contribute to peace initiatives in Colombia

3 Apr 2023 2 Min. read

As Colombians, the milestone of having signed the peace agreement in Colombia is fundamental and relevant, because as citizens we have grown up facing many years of violence and armed conflict.

We support the initiatives of governments that have achieved in recent years important advances in peace processes with armed groups, with the signing of historic agreements.

We firmly believe that peace in our country will be achieved with greater access to education, which is achieved with decent jobs that support the growth of communities.

That is why as a Hotel and in our restaurants, we continually look for ingredients that enhance our dishes and that in turn are purchased in communities that will benefit.
One example is our Filet of Fish dish of the day. In our support of sustainability initiatives, we want your experience to be a lasting one so that for many years to come you can enjoy the best fish from our Colombian coasts. In our kitchen we work to offer dishes that use fish that come exclusively from responsible fishing, which is the noblest of jobs and generates employment for millions of people in the world. Doing it responsibly guarantees its durability.

We bring daily artisanal fishing from Bahía Solano, exclusively with adult fish caught with hooks, which avoids catching endangered species. With this we support the Afro-descendant communities: Milton, our fisherman in Chocó, goes out every morning in his boat to ensure that our customers enjoy the best dish the next day.

We prepare it with ingredients from the Pacific, and we gratin it with a mixture of cheeses including Paipa cheese, which we bring from San Luis de Gaceno, a municipality in Boyacá whose community is supported by our weekly purchase. In this dish we manage to fuse all the flavor of the Colombian Pacific with the cheeses of the Cundinamarca-Boyacá highlands.
Although there are still many challenges to overcome, the search for peace continues to be a priority for us as a Hotel and for each of us as citizens.
